    one with paintings......!

Examples of French Prisoner-of-War Work, late 18th and early 19th Century.
Great Britain was at war with France continuously from 1793 to 1802. Hostilities ceased briefly in 1802, but conflict soon recommenced. The Napoleonic Wars continued until 1815, when Napoleon’s forces were finally defeated at Waterloo.

In 1796 the first prison to house French prisoners was built at Norman Cross, some 5 miles north of Peterborough. Conditions must have been both harsh and crowded; disease killed more that 1,700 inmates between 1797 and 1814.

To supplement their rations and to provide small income, some prisoners made ornaments, models and toys, which they were allowed to sell. The materials used included straw, wood, bone and even human hair. Many of the items made were extraordinary in their complexity and design and were always very desirable to collectors.

Hard to tell where any one item came from......unless documented...or inscribed..

Using water buffalo as an example of a big boned bovine. Just addressing Aquitaine's concern over whether she has an ivory issue here or not.

I understand. But there was no concern about ivory, just a question about the origin and what kind of bone.

Thanks Komo!! I'm stacking up any and all info I get/find on this little game! Probably will never know it's origin, and it IS more primitive than anything else I'm seeing!! What looks like a "top" also interests me....maybe I'll take everything out ....it all seems to be there......let's see what I wind up with!!!!
OK, nothing hidden, no signatures underneath...but the 'top' still puzzles me....... and the last image is just for size perspective clarity......

    Spinning dice?

It is an example of European folk art, and a very charming one. The couple are dressed according to the fashion of the time.

AJ, can you expand on your comment?? So, this is a European game?? Sorry, but migraines befuddle my thinking sometimes...........and would that be why the figures faces have somewhat of an Asian look????

I know it used to be played in Europe, but don't know exactly how it goes. I guess you spin the top and when it falls on one side, it displays the number on top, just like regular dice.
Sorry to hear about your migraines, hope you get some relief. Feel better soon.

I've lived with the migraines most of my life, but only gotten some helpful meds in my early 50's! BUT, except for the prophylactic meds, the rescue meds I can't take every day or I'll wind up with 'rebound' headaches....so have to be careful!!!! But thanks!! Just found this image on the web, which USED TO BE ON RUBY LANE.....the scenery I thought looks somewhat similar to mine!!!!

It is certainly related. Probably not by the same maker, but the same cultural background.
Have you tried cannabis oil? You can get it in capsules. I take it daily against all sorts of neurological disorders, it works for me. Maybe not 100%, but a great difference from how things were before. I have the THC-free kind, don't fancy getting high.:wacky:

@Any Jewelry NOT YET, and I don't fancy getting high either.....I have a bottle I got at a health food store....it did absolutely ZIP....even though I kept upping the drops!!!! HOWEVER, I am now legal in my state to go to a dispensary!!! From what I understand, they will work with you to get you comfortable.....and you can get the oil with absolutely MINIMUM THC so you don't get high but enough to get results..... that's what I want!! Just have to get my nerve up to go in!!!!:joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful: I know, I know.....it will probably get me out of pain if I do, but I'm nervous nellie about trying something like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is great for nervous nellies too.:playful:
If it works, you will be so happy to be rid of some of the burden. Pain takes its toll, less pain and other migraine symptoms is worth a lot.
