I don't know. I do know there has been a huge demand for them in Asia, where they are used for protective purposes, that could be another reason.
In the Islamic world they are known as 'eye of Suleiman aqiq'. An aqiq or akeek is a stone with spiritual significance. The Chinese love them too.

I have some beads, but no cabs. That I know of, I lose track sometimes.:D

I haven't rushed to sell this because it seemed to me bull's eyes were not selling that well. Will have to look again.

There is nothing tricky to cut a bullseye, the layers in the rough stone just need to be parallel to start with.

Exactly... you can't get the effect by cutting a random part of the stone, as in an uniform stone cab:D

Thank you, madame. It is missing the glass cover for the memento compartment. One of the things that came in an English estate lot I bought only for the Ariel cameo.

The star inset does make it out of the ordinary.

The main thing I see with KSW's cab is the very sharp separation of the white & dark layer & the glaring white of the white by comparison with mine:

Yes, it looks too sharp, and the colours seem too 'solid'. I am sure there is a better word for it.

It could be,but only testing to see if it is quartz or glass would solve the question.

This is glass, probably of the type James Tassie called 'enamel':

The white is opaque to a degree you don't see in chalcedony/agate.

    This is glass:

    And this is stone:
