FWIW we nearly always send prints and paintings without the frame or glass. Glass, unless for a small painting, is very difficult to protect and most UK couriers will not pay compensation if broken.

Nor do we send prints rolled up, so as to avoid roll creases.

We first wrap prints/paintings in 2-3 sheets of non acid tissue paper and then use several large flat pieces of cardboard to create a plywood effect packing sandwich with the painting in the middle, taped to the middle card layer so that it doesn't move. Lay the cardboard so that the grain direction is changed with each layer which stops it from bending.

As for tape, personally I would cut it and leave residue on back of paper unless it is almost falling off and removal would not damage paper

We've never lost a painting using this approach, and it allows inexpensive shipping.

Thank you - if it sells this will be my 1st "sandwich" packing: it sounds good + not to difficult! (I usually pay fed ex extra to pack because they are good + it should help if I have to file a claim, but they refused to pay a buyer for a neon sign they packed & it arrived broken, so now he wants a refund and I am going to have to deal with fed ex (who has the sign) - how could they refuse to pay when I bought insurance and they packed & shipped?)

Bobs, at risk of being corrected, I think it is "After" if it is not the original work but a print copy. I think they use the same term for bronze castings from an original sculpture.

    the description reads.....

Description: AFTER SALVADOR DALI (1904 - 1989) COLORED LITHOGRAPHIC PRINT Desmatemalzacio del Nas de Nero' edition LXXXIV/CC, Lligart Ltd. 1984, image size: 26 inches high x 16-1/2 inches wide; paper size: 29-3/4 inches high x 21 inches wide, not authentic.

It's that NOT AUTHENTIC at the end that makes me think Lligart may have produced their own line of print Copies......???

Someone needs to drill down into the companies practices......:wideyed::wideyed:

    lloyd249 it's not hoarding if it's valuable

komo is right , but be prepared to spend money, and time, as this will not happen overnight ,maybe even have to travel .People/experts and such will not believe from a picture/s, until you plop it down in front of them .

fingerprinting is 500 to take pics 500 to analyze them and 1000 more to call in a second opinion , and you have to book 6 months in advance .

We visited a Dali exhibit in Belgium last time we were there and there were tons of prints for sale. I really don't think it's worth your time and effort or cost to do much more research on this. As others stated, he signed so many blank pages and there are so many copies out there, you really have to go some to make serious money on it.

IMO it does have some things going on with it
    1. EA An épreuve d'artist or artist's proof.
    2. from what research i did on his hand printing ,IMO it does match .
    3. it has a seal .
4th and most important ,it has a fingerprint .
find out what it is worth if it is real ,and weigh that against the costs .
    big risks big rewards

Thank you all - I've got $20 invested in it, so if I make a few hundred I'm very happy. I put it on eBay so we'll see what happens. One good thing is I haven't found a lot of that piece (Dematerialization Near the Nose of Nero).

Now I'm trying to find out about a 5' antique painting I found at thrift store this morning - but I paid $200 for it & that's more than I've ever paid for a find there - especially since I couldn't make out the signature & went on my gut feeling/hunch that it was worth more than I paid for it! (I think the hunt - and finding out you found a real treasure - are the thrill for thrift store & yard sale hunters/pickers, as much as making a big profit!)
Thanks again for all the help & advice - anyone who wants to take a look at the painting and give me your thoughts are more than welcome! :)

plus that is a pretty clear fingerprint
so he shouldn't need a second opinion
so it could cost as little as 500 canadian

But his pencil signed lithos w/COA only sell for $1,200 - $1,600 on eBay - so is it worth that amount to find out with all it has going for it now?

Does Brett appraise/verify other art? It would be worth the price to be able to say appraised/verified by Pawn Stars Brett Malley!
