No contest. I saw a little side table in the ReStore today that Ghopper would have eyed, and Brad too. 1850-ish probably. Drop-leaf probable mahogany top with a drawer with its original glass knob pull. Dividers in the drawer, for what I'm not sure. The base had paw feet and wheels, and was carved within an inch of its life. I doubt it's still there. Somebody else was eyeing it up and asked when it would be priced. Heck, if I had a use for it I'd have called dibs. :D

I had to go IKEA for our bedroom back when we were still using cardboard boxes to hold our clothes and only had a metal frame to hold our bed. I had hand me down vintage and a single trip to a NC furniture maker clearance for the rest of the house, but my old bedroom set was 60s little girl fantasy (from mom) and the husband only had a single and no furniture. :meh:

It's the last room I have to replace things in. I said I'd do it when we moved someday, but we never have. :hilarious: So now I'm on the lookout but it's extremely hard to find a bed I like in a queen, and then complimentary furniture in dressers (plural), tall, but not wide wardrobe and nightstands all together so I don't have a weird set up. Especially because I dream of having a bed with a canopy. Scrooge chic lol. I had a less substantial one as a kid and I can't let the dream go. I figure I'll be haunting the local auction houses forever. :( Or until I have less clothes (HA).

Not seeing much lately. This tall oak chest of drawers was a good buy at $99.00 (would have been $75.00 with my senior discount ). I was tempted but did not want to mess with a large piece right now. It needed work on a couple of the drawer bottoms but was, otherwise, in great shape. i think the back piece was not original. It sold quickly.

I did buy this mahogany table. Could not pass it by for $7.00. Only needed very minor finish touch-up.

$7 piece is lovely-would that be called 'Sheraton','Empire', something else ? Can you estimate it's age ?

    Think more Hepplewhite. Probably 1940s-50s.

It looks like the sort of thing my grandparents bought in 1946. For seven bucks though, why not? You couldn't buy the hardware for that now.

Was able to pick up this Heywood Wakefield corner table for $22.00 this past week. Someone has refinished it the wrong color (marked Champagne on the underside), it has a small burn, and water marks on the top. I was able to turn it in one day for $100. I realize that it was potentially worth a lot more but, given the issues with it and lack of storage room, I was happy to make a quick buck.

I just discovered this thread and have finished reading it from the beginning. I am very jealous of the picking fields @verybrad has! There are many pieces here I would have scooped up in a heartbeat. I don't have room in my booths for big things but I do very well with small pieces. That Haywood Wakefield table is gorgeous! Congrats on that!

Have seen a few things out and about this week. In general, our Habitat for Humanity Re-store has gotten pretty pricey on furniture. These things weren't too bad.

Sofa was $200 and the chair $75. Did not sell right away.

This chest was posted on facebook and sold right away for $150.00. Someone commented that it was too cheap. They later brought out the matching dresser with mirror and priced it $450! It did not sell right away.

This was at a different thrift store. Though not really a set, they priced it as such. $55.00 for all 5 pieces! Despite the bargain, this was still sitting yesterday after 3 days on the floor.

The little $6.00 3 drawer dresser I posted on Dec. 17th is still sitting in the shop :( I priced it $59.00 and it has not sold. Nothing really wrong with it other than being brown and old. Nice solid piece. Just shows how out of fashion this furniture is.

Another dealer in the shop bought the oak 5 drawer chest posted above. He priced it $225.00. It is also still sitting there. I am glad I did not buy it.

Saw a nice little side table in a thrift the other day. I'd bet it had been refinished, but the top was a solid piece of figured wood. I'd bet on maple. The hardware on the drawer looked old and I'd bet the whole thing is antique. Priced $10 but local antique dealers don't want it. Brown wood doesn't sell for enough to take up the floor space.

Good insights @verybrad -In your opinion is anything (furniture-wise) currently selling anywhere near as fast as MCM ?
PS-Not talking of course orig 'bespoke' level Frank Wright,Bugatti,etc- just merch we'd find .

Finally sold my three drawer chest for asking price. Furniture has been slow.......

Here are some things I saw this week. I only bought the last one.

Thought this set of 4 chairs a good buy at $20.00 for the set. Nicely refinished and sturdy. I was tempted but really have no space, nor do I think they would sell quickly. Was probably right to pass them by. Still sitting yesterday after 4 days on the floor.
    thriftchair37.jpg

This chest was in very good condition. No veneer loss and just needing sprucing. The drawer pulls are obviously replacements. Priced at $45.00. Still sitting after 3 days.
    thriftchest20.jpg

This dresser did have the mirror set aside. Only way to get a good pic was to cut the top out due to glare. Didn't think to photo the mirror. Was a good buy at $20.00. Finish needs a little attention but, otherwise, good. Also still sitting after 3 days. There was a time I would have snatched this up.
    thriftdresser18.jpg

This art deco drop-front display cabinet is in pretty sad condition. Picture doesn't really show the multiple losses in veneer. Two door glass panes are broken as well. Certainly a project piece. Priced to sell at $30.00 but still sitting after a couple days.
    thriftdesk12.jpg

This is a modern drum table by Hekman Furniture Co. Pricey furniture so couldn't pass this up for $20.00. A few minor finish touch ups is all it needs. Key is in the drawer. I am seeing asking prices into the low $1000s for similar sized tables. I will be lucky if I can even get $250.00.

As above, furniture has been slow. This includes MCM but better MCM pieces with good finish have a better chance of selling than more traditional furniture does. Even so, our retail prices here are way off what they can get in Chicago (Chicago is off from LA or NYC). More run-of-the-mill MCM needs to be a bargain or painted to sell.

Paint is still strong here. Painted pieces under $150.00 are the bread and butter, furniture-wise, for the shops around here. Paint will out-sell traditional brown furniture, even given the same or lower price points. I am starting to see up-cycled paint pieces show up in the thrifts. Quite often, the paint has not fared well and they need to be re-done.

Thanks for the feedback Drew-valuable insights.Maybe folks are more into 'smalls' now- or with the current political and financial environment just guarding their wallets (?).
PS-Retail prices for Hekman pieces are high-even at Target !
