Our house was built in the 1970s by someone who doesn't believe in AC. We have lots of windows for great cross breezes and large pine trees all around. We do have a window unit we use in the bedroom when it is 90 humid degrees at night. We average about 6 nights per year :)

Doing without AC in the south is like doing without heat up in the north.:eek::eek:

Our house is very well insulated & we put in the energy saving windows when we built 4 years ago. I also have the wooden blinds which I close across the back of the house in the afternoon during the summer because about 3:30 in the afternoon it will blind you to sit at my white Formica table in the eating area. :p:p

We keep the thermostat set at 77 during the summer & it is quite comfortable. We also have ceiling fans in every room except the dining room & the one bathroom. I put one in the master bath when we built & in the laundry room about 6 months after we moved into the house. I would break someone's arm off if they tried to take them away from me. :grumpy::grumpy: In fact I just ordered one for the front porch area the other day.:rolleyes:

The only time we get any kind of breeze down here is if a hurricane or tropical storm is moving around the area & then your usually getting copious amounts of rain so there is no keeping the windows open. We actually average about 10 days a year when the temperature is low enough to open the windows & if it happens during pine pollen time you had better keep them closed unless you want to do a lot of dusting. :arghh::arghh::arghh:

    Hi,
The temperature here in Brick NJ at 6:30PM is 93 degrees. The house temp is 76 with no AC. All I hear is the whirl of AC units clicking on an off. All I see is dollar bills flying away. Tomorrow night it supposed to go to 60 with a high on Wednesday of 70.

We're supposed to get low 80s here. I'm hoping for some thunderstorms that will water Mom's plants for me.
