Well done! I couldn't read that part, just Mademoiselle and Calvados. That last word was good enough for me.:hilarious:

I think the line above reads "Post restant de." And here is the bureau to the left on the ground floor of the hôtel de ville.

I'm with fid, the address line is more likely Pensionnat .. than Poste restante de.

I found another one, the Pensionnat Sainte Thérèse, run by the Soeurs (Sisters) de la Providence de Lisieux in Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives. It looks different from the one in fid's postcard:

It still exists as a school and college, I don't know if it is at the exact same location, but it is in Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives:

Well I did suggest that in the beginning but it was ignored because I am obviously a blind sow...but, I am not always wrong :bookworm:

No one said you were always wrong. But you were wrong about 'your' translation of the message, you will have to admit that.
Since your mention of the word pensionnat was wrapped up in a romantic fantasy about someone sending love from boarding school and commenting on the beautiful photo of the girls, which was clearly wrong, it was bound to be ignored in the confusion.;)
You said 'your' translation was based on your little knowledge of French, but later said you used google translate, which led to even more confusion, at least with me.
If all that is right to you, I am even more confused.

are you sounding a bit worn out by your dangerous job ? sorry then for the sow.

No, I don't really care...just making mention of the fact that the word was there for everyone to use in their search.

If you had only said it was part of the address, it would have been picked up straight away and the thread would have been much shorter. So no, it wasn't there for everyone to see, because it was disguised in a story which you said you translated, but later turned out to be a single word google translated for you.

You really don't need to embellish things to be believed, or try to be a right fighter when someone else sees where the word is and what it is actually a part of.
Just be yourself, that is fine.

I really don't understand what you are saying. There was no disguise and there is no story...I showed that example so you would know it was something documented as fact and not just me. I was just giving it a go because I felt like it.
That is why I assured Peggy that she would get an answer when the true french speakers come in to do the proper translation.
    Sorry Peggy

    Actually you were WAY off.
The problem is that you make WILD guesses about things you know nothing about. Then post links that don't necessarily have any validity or connection.

Pensionat is in the address - so how could it be from a boarding school?

And that is the real problem.
Because you feel like it and want to take a chance you mislead and take threads in the wrong direction.

Sorry, took me a while to compose my thoughts. See that Any wants to get back to your Post Card.

Again, I can't help with your PC - but the little girls are still just as adorable as they were when I first commented.

    Right for boarding school! :)
But it was the recipient of the card who was in the « pensionnat « :)

Sorry I came late to thoroughly examine the pics in this thread... Just loved the charming girls in a hurry...
Being native French speaker, I would have been able to clarify this traduction earlier:shy:;)
