Anyway, it's cold out so I didn't go searching for good examples of naturally occurring rock that are closer to yours but these are some that are lying around. these have been exposed to weathering to the outsides are flaking away. The insides look very much like iron.

 

Yeah similar color but the shape isn’t as sphere like. I’m not sure at all but That would be pretty cool if it was a cannon ball. I don’t think my grandma would keep an old rock for 50 + years

 

Some are really round and when they first come out of the ground look more like yours. After years of freeze/thaw they start to flake away.

Didn't you say yours aren't magnetic?

I don't know if you saw this but it's someone seeking to ID a round ball found while diving. It gives some ideas from cannon balls, stone milling balls to natural.
