    Unfortunately no recordings of the unusual mating call of the Drillbill balloonbird survive, but in his book “Rare Avian Sightings in North America” (Harvard Press, Cambridge, 1932) the author, Dr. Mehmet Sphorgheny, describes that of our subject as “A plaintive, meliflous Awwk-Awwk-Ah-Ah-Ah-Awwk.”

    Have to wonder if the OP has tried to contact Mr. Wade to see if any of his net-weight decoys were made as root head coots - eBay shows several in completeds, some sold for decent prices (more usual bodies)...

    You know, drillbill balloonbird is not a bad name for a bird, it's at least as good as blue-footed booby :D:rolleyes:
