Glass dish with brass edge need help

Hinged butterfly w/ teeth-like jaws in back.
I have this tiny butterfly that has a hinged mechanism with teeth-like jaws in the back. It is only 3/4" across by 7/8" top to bottom. I have no idea if I should call this a pin or something else....
